Amrut Distilleries has raised the bar for Indian single malt whisky, the country’s oldest and most expensive expression till now. 

Launched to mark the company’s 75th anniversary, this ultra-rare whisky is limited to just 75 bottles worldwide. Priced at ₹10.5 lakh (approximately $12,000) per bottle, Expedition is crafted for discerning collectors and whisky connoisseurs who value rarity, heritage, and exceptional craftsmanship.

This is only the second time an Indian whisky has reached such heights. The first was Amrut Fusion in 2009, which marked India’s entry into the global single malt conversation. 

Two decades ago, Indian whisky was largely dismissed internationally. Today, it competes and now ranks, among the world’s best.

This recognition is not about a single whisky or a single moment, it is the outcome of a belief we held when no one else did, said Rakshit N. Jagdale, Managing Director of Amrut Distilleries, in a statement.

Twenty years ago, we were told India could not produce world-class single malt. We chose to ignore that noise and focus on craft, patience, and conviction. 

Amrut Expedition standing among the world’s finest is not a surprise to us, it is validation. Amrut did not set out to follow tradition; we set out to challenge it, and in doing so, we helped change the global whisky conversation forever.

Amrut Expedition Record-Breaking Age Statement in Indian Whisky

What makes Amrut Expedition special? Its 15-year aging period, which became the longest waiting time for Indian single malt whisky to reach completion. The whisky began its journey with eight years in European sherry casks, which created deep richness and luxurious sweetness. 

The whisky then moved to American ex-bourbon barrels, where it spent seven additional years, which produced vanilla notes, oak flavors, and structural development of the whisky.

The extended maturation process took place in Bengaluru, where tropical weather conditions created higher temperatures that increased the interaction between spirit and wood. 

The aging process in India proceeds faster than in cooler regions because of its climate, which makes Expedition's long-lasting qualities both exceptional and scientifically impressive.

Luxury Presentation with Cutting-Edge Authentication

The Amrut Expedition whisky presents an attractive visual experience and contains high-quality whisky. The bottle showcases a diamond-cut silhouette accented with gold detailing, designed exclusively for this release. 

The product demonstrates its value through its unique individual identification system, which includes both number engravings and a dedicated display box constructed by hand, requiring handcrafting and hand-painting and taking several months to complete.

The whisky becomes more desirable to collectors through its special silver peg measure which a Bangalore silversmith created by hand which shows the whisky's connection to Indian culture.

The packaging process required six months of work, producing five design prototypes before the final version reached 12 kilograms, including the box.

Amrut has developed an NFC authentication system with its custom verification card system to protect its exclusive products, which enables customers to verify their bottles' authenticity and complete historical record, which represents a unique advancement in Indian whisky product development.

A Defining Moment for Indian Single Malt Excellence

At 62.8% ABV, Amrut Expedition presents a powerful experience that showcases Amrut Distilleries as an innovative force in Indian single malt whisky production. 

This release marks a major milestone because it creates both a brand accomplishment and a significant development for India's entire premium whisky industry. 

Rakshit N. Jagdale, the Managing Director of Amrut Distillers, explained that Expedition represents decades of work between technical expertise and timeless faith. The whisky, he noted, reflects how far Indian single malt has progressed on the global stage.

Ashok Chokalingam, who serves as Head Distiller and Head of International Sales, compared Expedition's aging process to the extended maturation methods used for Scotch whiskies, which originate from colder regions. 

He stated that "True luxury comes at a price" because "you must pay more than the cost of a Maruti 800 to buy a Rolls-Royce."

Amrut Expedition: Strong Global Interest Amid Extremely Limited Release

The Amrut Expedition whisky has experienced exceptional international demand, which shows its success as an ultra-luxury product. Overseas collectors have secured most of the 75 bottles, which have already reached almost 60% pre-booked status. 

The release spans key global whisky markets including India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Dubai, Singapore, and Australia, reinforcing Amrut’s growing international presence. 

The limited availability of Expedition whisky has made it a highly desired item among collectors because its distinctive qualities attract whisky experts from different countries.

The House of Amrut Distilleries produces Amrut Expedition, which has been available to drinkers as a 15-year-old single malt whisky since its release. 

The recent ranking of Indian single malt whisky as the world’s third best whisky in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible represents a crucial development for the category on the global market. 

Expedition stands as India’s oldest and most expensive single malt whisky because its exceptional value and limited availability establish Indian whisky as an elite global category while creating a new standard that most competitors will struggle to achieve.
